At Hofgut Winzen, Holzweilerstraße 37–39, 41812 Keyenberg (Erkelenz), we organised a special kind of art walk through the village.
On 26 and 27 September 2020, we presented oil paintings created during the summer of 2020—both en plein air in the villages around Keyenberg (Erkelenz) threatened with demolition and in our studio in Leipzig.
We asked residents of the villages to build small houses for the paintings, providing them with a roof over their heads for the duration of the weekend. Activists enthusiastically helped to build and paint the resulting Lilliputian village.
The highly charged artworks reflect a broad spectrum of emotions—from hope to utter despair—experienced by people confronted with the impending demolition of their homes and the destruction of their homeland, and who must somehow find a way to cope with this threat.
